Refund payments

Learn what a refund is and how it works.

Refund occurs when the merchant sends funds back to the customer. Some of the examples of refund are:

  • the customer returns some items from the order or the full order.
  • you need to compensate for the goods or services that were delivered.

Refunds are always initiated by the merchant and refer to a previous transaction (charge or shipment). You can have multiple partial refunds up to the initially charged amount.

All payment methods except Giropay support refunds.

Refunds are realized by using the cancel API call for the transaction, on the initial payment—the charge transaction.
